The easy answer would be to hide all post counts once you get over say 50 - after all, is it really that imporant?
The only thing its useful for is to see if someone has just joined or might not be too farmiliar with the board so you can remind them more politely to look at the FAQ's and what not, once you have made so many posts you should know your way around and thus if you see no post count you can be blunter should you desire

Hugo: Trickery you say? Fie, sirrah! Fie, I say. I thought David should have waited a bit with his advisory.
David: Cunning? Perhaps canny linguist would be closer. Of course, if you lived in Cuney, TX (pop. 145)…
cheers,

Too late Gary, you sought to keep these dark arts to yourself, but now I too wield the power of the hidden teachings, beware

I do hope you speak in jest sir, for to speak otherwise will likely incur much hurt.
With all the martial arts experts here, I'd be in a world of hurt
Of course I speak in jest - I hope that no one here thinks I'm that callous.

I was in another forum where post counts did count. A few measures were taken to make it "fair", thoug. Posts in the off-topic section did not count for one thing. However, post count, in addition to adding stars or whatever, also added to "reputation" power. You could give or take away reputation points and the greater your reputation the more your opinion counted.
Some folks put great stock by this sort of thing. I don't. However, we all do look at post counts as a rough proxy of the time and effort some folks have put into a forum and into helping others. Persons who pad their post counts are usually pretty obvious and generally show other signs of immaturity. Hello! Hello! Yes, we know who you are.
As I pointed out previously, sometimes you need a Threadzilla just to have some fun. It seems to be mostly regulars who are keeping this sucker going and all of us could give a rat's ass as to what our post counts sit at. It is just a chance to step away from drying behind the ears of various posters (with very low post counts  ) and poking fun at each other. I mean, DOCTYPES, anyone? Sheesh, ya gotta give it a rest sometimes.

Have to admit this post padding actually works quite well, we can just keep adding to this threadzilla when we need to reach that elusive number not.

...meanwhile, back in the office, the work continues to pile up whilst Roy and Hugo play silly-bu66ers  Enough for now; I'm trying to cure a pesky little IE6 bug and it's doing my head in
...maybe I should rename this thread 'playground'

I didn't intentionally slip between your posts, but you just had to ruin mine
<roy>well maybe we should post like this then, that would realy keep our counts down - eh </roy>

I was about to remind you that you had work piling up around you, I on the other hand am going to carry on playing \:D/
Oh sh*t no I'm not, I just remembered why I am sitting here  something to do with checking through a php menu script thing.

Just a last one, might as well round things off to an even fifty and agree with David, DOCTYPES, huh, who needs em , bored with that subject.

Doctypes? Whats a doctype?
This thread is veeeery crazy, although to be honest, it did start pretty crazily.
Another forum I frequent has an off-topic section, and in there is a 'Butterfly Collecting' forum. This area is for the stupid posts (like this one) and they don't count to your post count. You can spam all you like!
Wooyay!
No; threads like this are good for a bit of light relief when endless days of IE bug-fixing get you down, but i don't think we should actively encourage pointless posts. Let's just have the occasional 'funny five minutes' within this section if and when the mood takes us, and as has been said: bu66er the postcounts. To my mind if you've made over 50 posts then you're a regular and beyond that your natural standing amongst your peers will be judged on the quality of the help you provide. That counts me out then
Though I have to say that I am more encouraged to use this forum when there is a liberal sprinkling of humour and mature stupidity (if there is such a thing), as contrary to what I stated a few days ago, it's good to smile and laugh
Wooyay!
haha is this just a count booster then?
Wooyay!
Well, it started off as a post about my leetness (read first page), then moved on to English discussion, then on to post padding and guruness.
Not sure what we're on about now
