IE7 is 10 years behind the standards or wrong.
But it works in IE!

This is probably (part of) Google's response to Ballmer's 'I'm going to f---ing kill Google'. The sad truth is that Google itself in no way embraces web standards. No doctype, deprecated elements, table based layout, etc.

Their embracing of Firefox can only help though. They'll get the picture soon enough.

It is on the "Referrals" page in the "Firefox" tab. See attachment.

Hmm, I can only see this as rather childish, not big nor clever!

As has been mentioned Google do not demonstrate any particular interest in Standards.

I for one would love to see Firefox force MS to it's senses, but this ain't the way to do it, you don't beat MS in a one to one fight.

I admit though a sneaking desire to run such a script but the tiny bit of me that presumes some sense of grownupyness deplores this direction.

Did Ballmer really say that about google? not a man to mince his words then Smile somewhat gauche though!

Hugo.

It wasn't a press conference. It was said, alledgedly, during a meeting with the guy that quit MS to go to work for Google. Don't recall his name. He said that Ballmer said that in papers filed with the court when MS tried to sue the guy, or stop him from going to Google, forgot which.

Level 3 (refusing to show anything to IE) perhaps but level 1 is simply an announcement that something better is out there. It can be designed to your taste to be as conspicuous or inconspicuous as you wish. Plus you get a buck. Wink

that buck is easy to get when you go to all your friends house and all the computers in your office and start downloading firefox with your own link Smile

It has to be installed and run at least once according to the referral page*.

Quote:
* A Firefox referral is counted when a Windows user, who has not previously installed Firefox, downloads and runs the program for the first time.

Only works for Windows and only works for FF with google toolbar and it has to be on a computer that never installed FF before and only get a buck for referrals in certain areas (probably non-communist countries Laughing out loud ).

Warning to those who are using this technique: It is very, very close to violating the Google Adsense program policies, particularly at Level 3.

In general, you are not allowed to "encourage" people to click on the referral button - you can "recommend" Firefox in general, but you cannot direct or encourage visitors to click on the button.

From the Google TOS:

Quote:
You shall not promote or facilitate a Referral Event by any means other than displaying a Referral Button on the Site, unless expressly authorized in writing by Google (including by electronic mail).

Caveat developer!
