'Modern' in the web design world is clean, simple, stylish and accessible. Forget the gimmicks and concentrate on taking simple text, colours and shapes and displaying them in a balanced, easy to understand way that is pleasing to the eye ...that's modern

Nice, thin pale lines, geometric shapes . . . as roy has stated, modern is clean and simple, uncluttered interfaces.
