The site is pure CSS with minimal Java script to allow it to pass the XHTML Strict validation. All graphics except the icons were created by me in Photoshop. The layout is simple and uses a CSS based navbar which should be visible in all current browsers.

I've tested the site with Firefox 2.0+ & 3.0, IE 6.0+ & 7.0+ and Opera 9.5. It's a simple site that's being used to primarily adversite my fathers engineering consultancy.

Best viewed with 800x600 and higher. All constructive criticism is welcome... Smiling

PS. The site does include tables -- but they aren't used for layout (yes, I actually did use tables for what they were meant for Eye-wink

Simple

I like how its simple and fast loading, the person browsing isn't wading through heaps of links. I was viewing the site on a 1280x1024 res monitor though, and the site was looking a little bit constrained, it would be nice if it made use of the available space for people with bigger monitors.

Still being on dialup, I

Still being on dialup, I really appreciated the fast loading. It's an attractive, well laid out site though you might want to check the sub-headings under "About Us". They don't appear to line up (A, B, C etc.).

I also agree with Simon that making people use that tiny little scroll box does not seem to be the best option for a business of this nature. If I'm going to scroll, I might as well be scrolling the viewport. Other than that, well done.

Mods and gurus – THANK YOU!
For your time, knowledge and experience so willingly and generously given.
Please come back tomorrow and sort us all out again Smiling

Design

Your imagery is quite nice.

The main problem is the very poor use of screen space - why force the visitor to scroll excessively when you can design a flexible layout that expands / contracts depending on window / screen size? The current design will annoy a lot of visitors resulting in many leaving the site quickly.

it is nice and welcoming.

it is nice and welcoming.
but as everyone else has mentioned the scrolling is limiting.
if you open it up, it would be easier to read. and people would spend more time looking around.

Everything seems to look good on a mac, I'm viewing with firefox.

good work.

Thank you all for taking the

Thank you all for taking the time to evaluate and critique the site. I had a feeling when i put in the embeded scrollbar that it would cause a difference of opinion. I did it because viewed on a lower resolution it fit into the design, but I always had a nagging feeling it wouldn't sit well on higher resolution monitors.

i'm going to tweak aspects of the site to include a liquid layout and get rid of the limited scrolling as per your suggestion. I had a problem when I started of how to get a liquid layout to work with my design, but I think i've figured it out so version 2 should work better.

Thanks again for the comments and taking time to helping me out! Smiling

The layout has been changed

The layout has been changed to remove the nagging scrollbar that everyone (including my uncle) hates. Have to say...I kinda agree with you all. It does look better. Smiling
